Ferro Silicon (FeSi)
FerroSilicon is a universal heat-blocker used in the protection of Carbon and stainless steels.This additive is used with other Ferro Alloys in the deoxidising process of steel, as well as in the production of silicon itself.
Ferrosilicon is produced by silica or sand and coke and a small amount of iron. Ferrosilicon can usually be found on the market with a content of up to 15%, 45%, 75% and 90% silicon and 2% iron, aluminum and calcium.
Large quantities of ferrosilicon are used to produce silicon carbide.
One of the mineral compounds that can be named similar to silica is Perryite with the compound (Fe5Si2) Ferrosilica slowly produces hydrogen in contact with water and this reaction is accelerated in the presence of bases. So another use of silica can be considered in the production of hydrogen.
The melting point and density of ferrosilicon depend on the amount of silicon.
